Kelsey Buss, LSW

Wendy's Wonderful Kids Recruiter, AASK Program (Fargo)

Current appointed NDFBSA Board of Director since October 2017.
Running for NDFBSA Board Director at Large for a 2 year term.

“My name is Kelsey Buss. Yes, like a school bus. One of the most rewarding aspects of my career is empowering others to find their voice and recognize their strengths and value. Three words to describe myself are hard-working, invested, and reliable; just like that trusty old school bus mentioned. I received a Bachelor of Science degree in both Social Work and Human Development Family Science through Minot State/North Dakota State University in 2015. I am currently obtaining a Master’s of Science in Social Work degree through University of Louisville. I am completing my practicum at the Anne Carlsen Center in Fargo, where I serve individuals with disabilities and their families. This has provided additional insight into the needs of families and children across North Dakota. I value new experiences and opportunities to develop my skills to ensure all children and family’s needs are met. I hope to maintain my position as a North Dakota Family Based Services Association Board Member to continue to promote family based services and help expand needed services in the state.”

Running for NDFBSA Board Director at Large for a 2 year term.

“My education and professional background of working with nonprofit agencies for over five years gives me a unique and effective approach to counseling. I work with clients, including children and their families to empower them and strengthen their relationships. I have a master’s level education in Mental Health Counseling from University of Mary and trained in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I have been a conference committee member with North Dakota Family Based Service Association since June 2017. I am choosing to run to be a member of the Board of Directors for NDFBSA due to the commitment they have towards promoting family based services in North Dakota to individuals working in this field and clients/families they serve.”

Kara Eastlund, MSW, LCSW

Supervisor, AASK Program (Fargo)

Current appointed NDFBSA Board Director since October 2017.
Running for NDFBSA Board Director at Large for a 2 year term.

“I LOVE the work that I do! I have a Master’s degree in social work from the University of North Dakota and am a Licensed Certified Social Worker in ND. My motivation for running for a board position is my continued passion to serve children and families in a strengths-based mindset, and desire to provide the best possible supports for our vulnerable populations. My values and beliefs align closely with NDFBSA’s mission and objectives and I have enjoyed being a part of an organization that embraces permanency, empowerment, education, and support. After growing up in a family where my immediate and extended family needed extra supports to help care for a child with autism, I understand firsthand the importance of having a team of professionals to make a family unit stronger. I want to be a voice in that team of professionals who can make a huge difference in the lives of others.”

Transitional Living Program, Youthworks (Bismarck)

Running for NDFBSA Board Director at Large for a 2 year term.

“I graduated from the University of Mary in the spring of 2014 with a major in Social Work and minor in Psychology. At Youthworks, I have worked with runaway, homeless, and struggling youth for over ten years. I initially started out as a peer youth mentor providing support to at-risk youth. I’m currently a case manager in the Transitional Living Program that works to house and support homeless youth. I chose to run for the North Dakota Family Based Services Association Board because I share the philosophy of a strengths-based approach and believe in North Dakota’s families. I currently sit on the Missouri Valley Coalition for Homeless People, the suicide crisis response team for Bismarck/Mandan Public Schools, and the North Dakota Family and Consumer Science Board at the North Dakota Youth Correction Center. As someone who works with homeless young adults, I plan to bring a youth-focused perspective to the Board and can offer insight to the committee regarding young people’s perspectives of family.”
